Letter/Story

'THE LETTER'
I busy myself at the start of each day
until I can no longer keep, desire at bay.
From our garden by the sea, I take the path that leads me
to the place where your words can greet me.
But I find it’s not quite the right time so
I’ll watch and I’ll wait and I’ll pine.
Maybe next time a treasure I’ll find.

Your words so clear, so strong, they are my favorite song.
They keep you near, they keep me hanging on.
I cling to this one, until the next one comes along.

The day is done and early evening has just begun.
As I make my way past the garden wall,
I watch the flowers sway and hear the crickets call.
My destination comes into sight and my feet take flight.
It takes but a moment to see you’re not able to meet me.
Distance can never part the bond between our hearts.
So I’ll watch and I’ll wait and I’ll pine, until next time.

For your words are clear and strong, they are my favorite song.
They keep you near, they keep me hanging on.
I cling to this one, until the next one comes along.

Countless times I’ve gone there only to find it bare.
I watch and I wait and my heart, how it aches.
The days are so long, and I struggle to be strong.
My thoughts scurry between wonder and worry.
At night the darkness steals all hope from sight
and when fear begins to fill my soul with despair,
I have but one choice; I open the last one and listen to your voice.

Your words are my favorite song.
So I’ll watch and I’ll wait and I’ll hang on,
clinging to this one, until the next one comes along.
